Chief of Army Staff General Waqar-uz-Zaman has said that the Army will give full support to the Election Commission (EC) to maintain orderly environment and organize fair elections in the country.He gave this assurance in a function organized at the Army Multipurpose Complex of Dhaka Cantonment on the occasion of Armed Forces Day today, Sunday, November 2In the ceremony,64 soldiers were awarded various medals and 75 families of freedom fighters were awarded for their heroic role and outstanding contribution to the army. Among them,9 people were awarded Army Medal,17 were awarded Outstanding Service Medal and 38 were awarded Distinguished Service Medal for their contribution in the fiscal year 2024-25 and 2025-26. The army will always perform its duty in the interest of the country and the welfare of the people.

The storm’s destructive force, accompanied by heavy rainfall and severe flooding, has submerged many areas including Cebu Island. So far, the country’s authorities have confirmed the deaths of 66 people. According to government officials, Kalmegi made landfall yesterday, Tuesday, 4 November, around noon local time in the islands of Cebu, Negros and Panay. At that time, its wind speed ranged from 150 km (93 miles) to 185 km (115 miles) per hour.The country’s disaster management department stated that 49 deaths have been reported from Cebu alone. Most of the victims drowned. Many others remain missing. Nearly 400,000 people have already been evacuated from the storm’s possible path.
