On the occasion of International UN Peacekeepers Day-2026, Prime Minister Tariq Rahman called on the army to learn from the past and come forward to build a strong and sovereign state. He made this call as the chief guest at a function organized at Senakunj, Dhaka Cantonment today, Wednesday, June 10.In his speech, the Prime Minister appreciated the contribution of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the UN peacekeeping mission. Express sympathy.He said the achievements of our peacekeepers on the world stage have been made possible through hundreds of adversities, limitations and tough challenges. The main duty of the armed forces is to protect the country's glory so that it does not fade in any way. It has reached a place of trust internationally. The participation of women in peacekeeping missions has given Bangladesh a new dimension and this trend will continue in the future.The Prime Minister said that so far more than two lakh army and police personnel of Bangladesh have served in 63 missions in 43 countries. Currently 4 thousand in 9 missions.212 peacekeepers are working. Tariq Rahman said that in the past, on November 7,1975,under the leadership of the declaration of independence, the army moved in unity. As it stood in February 2009,the armed forces faced all kinds of internal and external conspiracies, including a totalitarian attack on the armed forces. Must go ahead. Professionalism, unity, discipline and chain of command are essential for uniformed forces.He said, modern war and security challenges have changed now. New risks like cyber warfare, abuse of artificial intelligence and information warfare have emerged The armed forces must rely on technology to deal with it. In 2025,he gave a special honor to the families of 6 soldiers killed in the peacekeeping mission in Sudan and He also honored the injured members. The storm’s destructive force, accompanied by heavy rainfall and severe flooding, has submerged many areas including Cebu Island.
