Indian Navy has set up a new "noughty" in the Bay of Bengal to keep an eye on Bangladesh-China.

International Desk, Daily Nasa News. The Indian Navy is taking the initiative to establish a new naval base in Haldia, West Bengal in the northern region of the Bay of Bengal. The Indian media reported in "India Today". After the fall of Sheikh Hasina's government in the popular coup in July, the relationship between Dhaka and Delhi has taken a new turn. There are complaints, many decisions and steps of Bangladesh during Hasina's government were unilaterally in favor of India. Saying. Seeking justice in all kinds of relations. In this, Bangladesh- Pakistan relations, which have been cold for a long time, have been revived. Dhaka's closeness with China has also increased. As a result, India has taken this decision in the new context of relations between the countries of the region, India Today said.According to reports on defense sources, the facility at Haldia is not a full-fledged naval base, but will function as a naval "detachment". Small-scale warships will be deployed here. The base is planned to be operationalized quickly using the existing Haldia dock complex. In the initial phase, a special jetty and necessary coastal infrastructure will be constructed. The new base has the potential to deploy "Fast Interceptor Craft" and 300 tonne "New Water Jet Fast Attack Craft". These boats are capable of traveling at a speed of 40 to 45 nautical miles per hour. They are equipped with CRN-91 cannons and in the future there are plans to add patrol vessels like the Nagastra, which will increase surveillance and strike capabilities.Due to the shallow waters and high traffic in the India-Bangladesh coastal region, military analysts believe that these fast vessels are more effective in surveillance, deterrence and detention operations. The strategic importance of this Haldia base has increased in the context of the expansion of China's fleet and the increase in infrastructure and defense cooperation between the country and Bangladesh. It will not function as an independent naval command. However,it is strategic as it is located about 100 km from Calcutta and has direct access to the Bay of Bengal, avoiding the long journey up the Hooghly River.is gaining importance.India's east coast currently has the headquarters of the Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam and important naval bases in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Officials said the land for Haldia was earmarked earlier, but the construction was delayed due to various reasons. The initiative is part of the Indian Navy's larger expansion plan.In 2024,under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, the Defense Acquisition Council approved the purchase of 120 fast interceptor craft and 31 new water jet fast attack craft. Usually 10 to 12 members can work in these boats weighing about 100 tons. Experts believe that these boats will play an important role in coastal patrol, anti-intrusion, port security and special operations.
